The Carters had the crowd going APESHIT in the Dome. Aesthetically pleasing visuals, stunning outfit changes, and sick choreography. Beyoncé and Jay-Z brought their A-Game Thursday night as the OTRII Tour stopped in New Orleans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Though I saw Jay-Z last October at Austin City Limits, I realized that it’s been over 7 years since the last time I’ve seen Beyoncé live. So it’s safe to say that I had high experience especially after that jaw-dropping and iconic Coachella performance this year. I can confirm all my expectations were met and exceeded last night at the OTRII Tour. In this concert review, I’m going to tell you about my 5 favorite parts of the show.
5 Favorite Parts of OTRII:
1. The Outfit Changes: I appreciated that not only did Beyoncé change outfits about 5 times throughout the 2+ hour set but so did Jay-Z. The tiny details of every outfit such as the added bling and couple's color coordination didn't go unnoticed. A couple that changes together, stays together.
2. The Setlist: I'm one of those people that looks up the setlist weeks before the show to prepare for it. The OTRII setlist was over 40 songs with a little bit of everything -- Jay-Z’s hits, old and new, such as “Public Service Announcement,” “N*ggas in Paris,” and “The Story of OJ"; Beyoncé's hits such as “Formation,” “Ring the Alarm,” and “Countdown"; and course, lastly the Carters performed some of their joint tracks such as “Crazy in Love” and “Apeshit.” It was truly a musical experience.
I can vouch that the 3 most hype songs of the night were:
1. Apeshit
2. N*ggas in Paris
3. Countdown
3. The Interludes: With about 5 video interludes throughout the show that featured clips of the couple running away together on the beach, swimming in exotic places, Jay-Z getting in fist fights with another man, and more, OTRII Tour was a literal movie. It was jam-packed with aesthetically pleasing visuals that told the story of the Gangster and the Queen aka Jay-Z and Beyonce "on the run." Also at the end of the show when they were thanking everyone for coming, credits rolled on the screen which really proved it was a true production.
4. Their Openers: I, unfortunately, missed Chloe and Halle's set due to getting off late from work along with various variables such as traffic, finding a place to park, and walking blocks to get to the Dome. But, I did get inside in time to catch DJ Khaled's set. From playing snippets of some of the hottest songs to hype up the crowd to bringing out Rich the Kid to perform "New Freezer" and "Plug Walk," DJ Khaled was perfect to set the tone before the King and Queen hit the stage. Also, let's not forget about his dance moves during Wild Thoughts and the razor scooter he rode off the stage on.
5. The Crowd: Lastly, the crowd really made the show an even better overall experience. Young and old...women and men, gathered into the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Thursday night to have a good time. From Beyoncé and Jay-Z inspired outfits to doing the choreography in the aisles, the crowd’s energy was unmatched.
